Brooke Carlson is a graduate of Johnson University having earned her Master of Arts in Counseling. She enjoys working with late adolescents and young adults, especially those experiencing times of transition. Her areas of focus include anxiety, interpersonal relationships, shame, and healthy expressions of emotions and sexuality. Brooke deeply desires to walk alongside individuals as they pursue wholistic growth in all areas of their life.
Brooke first felt her heart moved towards counseling when she took a gap year after high school and moved to Spain. During that year, she worked and lived alongside clinical psychologists and professional counselors to help provide care to other missionaries and those struggling with burnout or trauma on the mission field. In that year, Brooke was able to experience firsthand the powerful work of counseling for those who were hurting and disheartened.
After living in Spain, Brooke completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Tennessee majoring in Psychology. Brooke approaches counseling with a whole-body framework that integrates one’s mind, physicality, emotions, and spirit. She works in a highly relational way that upholds the sacredness, beauty, and hope of a counseling relationship. She enjoys utilizing creative techniques and interventions within the collaborative relationship. Some of her main theories of reference include a person-centered approach, narrative theory, dialectical behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy; although, she is always looking to expand her therapeutic knowledge and theoretical framework.
Brooke fully respects and recognizes the differences in cultures, values, backgrounds, and beliefs of her clients. Her desire is to create a collaborative and kind space where an individual can feel deeply known and cherished.
Born in Memphis, TN, Brooke moved to Knoxville for college and fell in love with the city. Brooke is married to her husband, Ocean, and together they enjoy traveling, hiking, running, and trying new food around Knoxville. She welcomed her first son, Rivers, in February of 2023.
